About me
I knew from the age of 17 that I wanted to be a psychologist, that I wanted to help and support people and that I was fascinated by human behaviour and cognition. I pride myself on my values and ethics and my practice reflects that. I have studied for many years to build my psychological knowledge, my understanding and my competence to be able to practice. Similarly, I have worked in a community mental health team in Manchester working with people with severe and enduring mental illnesses from age 16-65. During this time I was on a continuous learning journey undertaking many courses such as suicide prevention and working with those with drug and alcohol issues alongside mental illness. I have around 23000 hours experience of 1-2-1 client work.To be a chartered psychologist in the UK you must undertake qualifications accredited by the British Psychological Society and unfortunately the title ‘psychologist’ is not yet protected.My psychology qualifications are accredited by the British Psychology Society and I am currently applying for chartered status via the British Psychology Society.Why am I telling you this?I feel that it is unethical to advertise as something that you are not. I strongly advocate that you should be aware of who you are trusting your mental health and wellbeing to and those of your organisation. Anyone can set up a coaching business and coach you, but surely you want the person who has years of training and education, is accredited and chartered to do so. Meaning that you are in the most capable hands.My consultancy is an open, honest and trustworthy space from the very first moment and this continues through your working relationship with me. Endometriosis and me
For 31 years, I have been a warrior against endometriosis. This disease has profoundly impacted my life, career, relationships, and confidence. Since the age of 13, I found myself sidelined from many activities my peers enjoyed, as my life became centered around managing pain and being housebound.My journey mirrors that of many others with endometriosis: being ignored by medical professionals, gaslit about my own body, and told that I was imagining my symptoms. Sadly, this is a common experience, with statistics showing that 78% of women with endometriosis are told they are fabricating their illness and pain.Despite chronic pain that restricted my ability to go out, walk, and fully live, I refused to let it stop me. I channeled my energy into learning and self-growth. Fast forward 19 years, and here I am, having made the choices necessary to live my life fully, rather than merely observing others. I moved across the country on my own and started a new life by the beach. Some might call it luck, but it was my deliberate actions and choices that brought me here.I practice Positive Psychology daily. I harness my strengths, cultivate resilience, and ensure that I am prepared to face challenges head-on. Now, I am dedicated to supporting others with endometriosis, helping them to grow, live, and thrive despite their chronic illness.When you work with me, you’re partnering with someone who truly understands the journey and lives in alignment with my 'why,' strengths, and values. Individual coaching- My fees are £70 per hour.Group coaching is dependant on the length of the course offered. My First Instagram Live with EndoBuddies: From Nerves to Passion
A few weeks ago, I did something completely out of my comfort zone…
I went live on Instagram for the very first time! And not just any Live—this was a conversation with the amazing team at EndoBuddies, a charity doing incredible work to support people living with endometriosis.I won’t lie—I was nervous. Really nervous.
As someone who hasn’t had much experience being interviewed, the idea of speaking live in front of an audience felt huge. But I also knew that this kind of experience is part of what I’ll need to do as I move through my PhD journey—particularly when it comes to presenting at conferences and sharing my research. So, I took a deep breath and said yes.Once we got started, something shifted.The moment I began talking about endometriosis, and the research I’m so passionate about, the nerves started to melt away. I found that when you care deeply about something, it carries you through the fear. It grounds you. It gives you purpose.And that’s not all—I also leaned on the tools I know and trust from my own work in positive psychology.
Instead of focusing on what might go wrong, I reminded myself of my strengths. I stayed connected to hope, honesty, and the love of learning—qualities that have supported me throughout my personal and academic journey.I’m so grateful to EndoBuddies for inviting me to be part of this conversation, and for holding such a kind, inclusive space. Strengths Work and How It Helped Me Navigate My Illness
What is Strengths Work?
In positive psychology, strengths work is about identifying what’s right and good in ourselves and building on these qualities to thrive. Instead of focusing on weaknesses, strengths theory suggests we focus on our natural abilities, skills, and personality traits that energize us. Whether it’s creativity, resilience, or empathy, everyone has unique core strengths. When we recognize and apply these, it can make a real difference in our well-being, relationships, work, and even in navigating life’s most challenging experiences.For me, this approach became a lifeline. Dealing with a chronic illness like endometriosis tested my resilience and impacted nearly every part of my life. But I found that knowing my strengths helped me stay anchored, positive, and focused on what I could still do and appreciate.Here’s how some of my strengths have helped me find a way through.
1) Love
Love – valuing close, supportive relationships – has always been a central strength for me. I’ve been lucky to have a strong network of family and friends, from childhood friendships to connections formed later in life. They’ve been my cheerleaders, celebrating the highs and steadying me through the lows. I know I can ring up a friend, no matter how far apart we are, and speak openly and truthfully about what’s going on. For example, after my hysterectomy, my dad visited daily, lying beside me as a quiet source of support. During my hardest moments, my friends and family have shown me I’m never alone, and that has been invaluable.
2) Love of Learning
Love of learning has always been my anchor. Even from a young age, I wanted to understand the world around me. My mom still laughs about the time I learned to write my name backward just to keep things interesting! Learning has been a constant source of comfort and growth. When endometriosis confined me physically, I spent countless hours exploring new things – from quilting and knitting to completing multiple degrees, including my MScs and even a PhD.In a way, learning helped me feel productive and fulfilled during the hardest times. I still laugh about the time I crafted a Christmas tree star while high on morphine, convinced I’d created a masterpiece. (In reality, it was just a foil-wrapped cardboard tube – my “Morphine Star”!) But that star was a reminder that even when I’m down, my curiosity and drive to learn remain. And if I can keep learning despite everything, I can keep moving forward.
3) Humour
Humour is probably my strongest (and darkest!) coping mechanism. I’ve been told my laugh is infectious, and I’m always finding the light side in tough situations. Endometriosis has tested my humor, but I’ve found that joking about it helps me navigate the hard times. When I found out about the cysts on my ovaries, I sobbed – but then told myself my love for chocolate had led my body to produce its own “chocolate cysts.” And when I realized I might not be able to have children, I joked that maybe it was the universe’s way of preventing me from raising the next Terminator!This humor isn’t just a distraction. It stops me from spiraling into negativity, giving me a moment to laugh, breathe, and reframe my experience.
4) Hope
Throughout my life, I’ve had a strong sense of hope, believing that things will work out. I call it “trusting the universe.” While my hope sometimes wavers, especially during “hippo days” (when I allow myself to wallow a bit), it’s always there, reminding me that each day is a fresh start. I’ve learned to see setbacks as redirection, knowing that while my journey may not look like everyone else’s, it’s still meaningful. This hope keeps me resilient and forward-looking, even when the road gets rough.
5) Honesty
Honesty is essential for me. I believe in being genuine with myself and others, even when it’s tough. This strength has helped me navigate medical conversations with transparency and self-assurance, advocating for myself even when faced with dismissive opinions or gaslighting. Knowing I can be honest with myself has allowed me to push through, stay strong, and maintain a sense of integrity, no matter what challenges I face.
Finding Your Strengths
Knowing your strengths can be empowering, especially if you’re facing difficult circumstances. If you’re curious, I recommend completing a strengths inventory to see what comes up for you. Our strengths evolve, so it’s worth revisiting every so often.For me, discovering my strengths and understanding how they could help me navigate life with endometriosis has been life-changing. It’s given me purpose and resilience – and I hope it can do the same for you.
